F.A.Q.

for students

  • What is a Venture Loan?

A Venture Loan is a credit line where the student pays back a percentage of her or his future income, usually in the range of 5% to 10%. There are no interest rates charged. The design of the instrument is very similar to the one implemented in Germany at Witten Herdecke University since 1995.

  • What is the difference between a Venture Loan and a Standard Loan?

A standard loan charges interest rates which, if floating, can fluctuate across time, and in a currency which is often different from the currency where the student is earning her or his salary. A venture loan is proportional to the gross income of the student and has nothing to do with interest rates. The amount to be repaid increases with the career advancement of the student. Most importantly, if the student does not earn any income, she or he does not pay the debt.

  • As a student, which documents do I need to submit?

The student needs to be admitted into the MBA program at the London Business School or INSEAD and submit a credit report. Two references are needed before the funds are disbursed to the school, a family member and an academic person, one of which should be a moral guarantor. Students need also to provide a proof of identity, an address and the last tax declaration.

  • Is there a cap on the maximum amount to be repaid?

Yes, there is a cap which is fixed at twice the nominal amount borrowed.

  • Where do I get a credit report?

The process for obtaining a credit report differs in each country. If you are unclear of the relevant process, we advise you to reach out to your local bank; they should be able to assist you, or point you in the right direction for the applicable processes in your country. A few links to credit bureau are provided here: Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

  • Do I need to translate the documents?

We know a wide range of languages but should translation be required, you are welcome to use a freelance service such as Elance.com provided you include the full name and contact details of the translator.

  • Can I request a loan confirmation letter for the visa?

Yes, we will issue a loan confirmation letter which will be issued only if your loan application is completed and finalised.

We provide opportunities for students from Africa to access an elite education. Based in Luxembourg, Trusted applies modern principles of fund management to education and philanthropy to form what we call venture philanthropy. Its creation has been the result of the personal experiences of its founders, who have first-hand experience with the difficulties of accessing a best-in-class education and launching a career under a heavy student debt load.

We believe education is the foundation for social justice and our team wants to make a change in the world. Contact us.
